Sunday 23rd February - Linda Costa Table Olive Workshop

South African table olive expert Linda Costa’s presentations and workshops at the 2018 and 2019 National Olive Conferences were a hit and left growers wanting even more … so she’s heading back for a national workshop tour in early 2020.

Linda will deliver a series of full day workshops across the nation, ensuring industry-wide access to her expertise. The workshops will cover all aspects of table olive production and marketing, from varietal options and processing methods to food safety and consumer demand. There will be lots of opportunity for Q & A.

Friday 6th March - Sensory Training Workshop

Would you like a better understanding of what makes award winning EVOO and table olives stand out from the rest?

Don’t miss the opportunity to learn from industry experts and sensory scientists. You will come away from the workshops with a better understanding and appreciation of what goes into producing quality Australian EVOO and table olives and learn about sensory evaluation.

Presenters of the workshops are: Dr Soumi Paul Mukhopadhyay, NSW DPI Sensory and Consumer Science Researcher and Peter McFarlane, OliveCare® administrator.

For more details and to register your attendance https://olivebiz.com.au/event/sensory-training-workshop-sa-march2020/

The sensory training section of the workshops are aimed at those with little to some olive tasting knowledge. Those who are well trained and have judging experience are encouraged to attend to benchmark their tasting skills and to learn about the growing and production technical aspects of what produces faults in EVOO and table olives. Experienced judges attending will be in a position to ‘give back’ by sharing their skills and experiences with the less experienced.
All attendees will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Saturday 25th July - Field day at Woodside Farm

Come and see how the trees have recovered from the devastation
of summer bush-fires.

Olives SA members and olive enthusiasts gave their time on 31st December 2019 to assist Ron and Ethne Baker at Woodside Farm remove and clean up 50km of damaged irrigation to their olive trees.

It's now time to check in and see how the trees have recovered.

Ron and Ethne will explain how they saved the property.

Peter Cox called on his many years of experience managing olive groves to devise a programme to bring these trees back from the brick, and he will tell us how he did it. (Apparently his custom built tree saw is a sight to behold!)

Jared Bettio suffered some losses to his trees and will share his experiences of what worked best to help the trees recover

Andrew Taylor agronomist and Grove Manager at Pendleton Estate has a wealth of knowledge, especially about pruning and long term management of trees to increase yields. He will add to the discussion about how to manage a situation such as this.

We plan to wind up the session with a BBQ in the lovely garden that Ron and Ethne managed to save from the fire.
