24th - Extra Virgin Olive Oil Tasting Course with Trudie Michels

As they say 'Oils ain't just Oils'

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is amazing, in the way that you can get so many subtle flavour variations and the number of different factors that can affect them.

It's not just the season, the variety and the terroir, but picking time, post picking handling, processing and post processing handling will all have an impact on the final flavour.

This course will look in depth at various classifications of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and examine the factors that produce these.

Just like good wine, Extra Virgin Olive Oil is scrutinised each year to find the very best oils for the season.

Trudie Michels is a highly experienced Extra Virgin Olive Oil Judge and master blender. She is the Head Judge for the Olives South Australia annual competition. Trudie is also the Head Steward for the Australian International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition.

In addition, Trudie is an excellent presenter and has a knack of making all these factors seem so simple to understand, and learning such an enjoyable experience.

This is definitely a "Must Attend" event for anyone who is even vaguely interested in Extra Virgin Olive Oils.

 Bring your picnic lunch, pruning tools and equipment, as Peter Cox guides us with his expertise.

Peter has been involved in the NOVA site since its inception, and he has many years’ experience in olive grove management. Peter is an excellent person to guide us through pruning techniques.

The trees on the site have been neglected for a few years and could do with re-shaping. By working alongside Peter, you will increase your expertise in the art of pruning olive trees.  

This is a great opportunity to hone your pruning and shaping skills, while helping to revitalise this important national site.

The WEA is thrilled to welcome back celebrity chef, Rosa Matto for another presentation in conjunction with Olives SA. Rosa will prepare a variety of delicious recipes using olives and a selection of Extra Virgin Olive Oils (EVOO). The session will commence with a short segment highlighting the qualities of Table Olives and EVOO.

Presenting a range of new recipes, Rosa will present a range of dishes to showcase the versatility of olives and olive oil. Participants will get to taste generous samples of Rosa's cooking which will be paired with some lovely Tomich wines. A presentation not to be missed!
